Club fitting is a conversation, not a form. The better the conversation, the better the fit. Here's how to get it going.
The empty chat
When you open StickFitter for the first time, you'll see an empty chat with four starter prompts:
"I'm a 15 handicap looking to upgrade my irons..."
"I play a few times a week and can't fix my slice..."
"I just three-putted every hole, I need a new putter..."
"I'm a beginner - what clubs do I need?"
Click one to jump straight in, or type your own opener. There's no wrong way to start.
What to mention early
StickFitter will ask you the important questions, but you'll move faster if you volunteer a few key facts up front:
Handicap or typical score. A 5 handicap and a 25 handicap need different clubs, period.
What you're fitting for. A full bag? Just irons? A driver? Wedges? Scope the conversation.
Current clubs (brief). I play TaylorMade Stealth irons" is enough. You don't need shaft details - we'll ask if it matters.
What frustrates you. "I can't hit my 4-iron" is more useful than "I want new irons." Pain points point to fitting gaps.
What StickFitter will ask
Expect questions about:
Handicap, age, and typical driving distance. Rough numbers are fine.
Height and handedness. Height is a proxy for length. If you know your wrist-to-floor measurement, share that instead - it's more accurate.
Your consistent miss. Slice, hook, push, pull, fat, thin. Everyone has one.
Budget or condition preference. Are you open to used clubs? Chasing the latest and greatest? Both answers are fine - they change the recommendations.
Feel preferences. Do you like a soft forged iron feel or a hot forgiving one? Blade-like or cavity-back? Players' driver or a forgiveness bomb?
Once StickFitter has enough to go on, the recommendation appears in the right panel and in the chat. If you're missing key information, it'll tell you what's still needed.
You can refine as you go
Not thrilled with the recommendation? Say so. "Can you show me something with more forgiveness?" or "I'd rather stay under $800 for the irons" will adjust the fit.
Multiple fittings are fine (and encouraged)
Use separate chats for separate goals. One chat for a full-bag refresh, another for a putter hunt six months later. Chats are listed in the left sidebar - click any to return to it. Each fitting is saved independently, but we'll remember the key characteristics about your game, your setup, and our recommendations.
